I find the calorie deficit metric very suitable for monitoring weight loss. Total calories (rest + active) and calories consumed have already been recorded and available. The deficit is simply calculated as total calories - calories added.

Use a bar to see how many calories I've eaten (plus range) and how many I've burned (minus bar) so that you can see at a glance whether you can still eat anything.

A new point, which could also fit in here thematically:
Macrofactor has integrated a great feature that calculates daily calorie consumption “live” based on calories consumed and weight. This means you always have an up-to-date and more realistic estimate of your total calorie consumption (resting calories + active calories).
The data would already be available in Sonar, so the calculation and integration would probably not be a big problem.

I think this is a very good idea, as it is a relevant indicator for weight loss.
It might also be useful to set a maximum number of calories that you are allowed to consume each day.
